Hello, pleasure to meet you, I am Roy.
I am a 20 year old McMaster student studying Sciences. I was born in Mexico and immigrated to Canada together with my family in 2011.
Growing up in a country that faced many social and economical challenges, I was never taught the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle (physically, mentally & emotionally) and the impact that it had on your daily life.
It wasn't until my own personal problems that I hadn't put a lot of importance on started to take a toll on me. I began to discover the twisted misconceptions that I had on how men should deal and handle the different problems they are dealing with. I had to look within myself and re-evaluate my views on everything I had once believed to be the norm and change my way of thinking. It wasn't until then that I finally started to see a more significant positive change in my life.
I had developed a more open and critical way of thinking that was able to identify negative coping mechanisms/behaviors that many men in my life used to deal with their problems. This is what eventually led me to start and create this club, in order to spread awareness about these issues with regard to men's health, that I believe need more acknowledgement and are very important for the community around me to be more aware off.
I think that many of the problems with regards to men's health not only impact the men themselves but those around them such as their partners and families. I believe this is something that can be avoided through the proper education of what being healthy really means and the normalization of dealing with many mental and physical issues, as there still is a strong stigma surrounding many health disorders such as depression, anxiety and ED in men.
